Today, the sun was shining, and it was a little bit windy out. After our quick breakfast, we unpacked the kids’ kayaks and set them free in the water. The beach was visible from our campsite, so the kids had fun kayaking to the beach to go for a swim, and then kayaking back.
The kids wanted to try fishing from their kayaks—which was short lived! They found it tough to try to paddle and hold a fishing rod at the same time. Brent had tied a loose strap on their ankles to their rods in case they dropped their fishing rods in the water. I’m thinking we should look into getting some floating rods if they want to try that again.
We BBQ’d hotdogs for lunch before we headed out in the boat for some real fishing.
Brent got a chance to relax in the boat while I drove, and the kids fished. Usually he’s the captain—trying to drive the boat, hooking up lines, and helping reel in and net the fish. So he enjoyed kicking back for a little while.
I caught the first fish of the day! A 2.5lb bull trout. After being in the boat for a few hours, we headed back to camp.
I ventured out with the kids and the dogs to check out the rest of the park and to see the creeks. I would have to say the highlight of this campground is for sure the beach, but also the campground is clean, and campsites are private and spaced well. Half of the campground is reservable and the other half is first-come first-served. It’s all relatively flat, so it was easy to head out for walks and for the kids to ride their bikes.
The kids had made a friend at another campsite the night before, so we invited her to have dinner with us. Afterwards, her grandparents, Dale and Clyde, joined us to visit around the campfire while the kids ran around and played. It was so great meeting new friends— not only for the kids but for us as well.
Before we knew it, it was almost midnight and still surprisingly light out. When we go camping, usually if no one gets cranky then there is no bedtime. But this time, we decided it was best if we called it a night and got ready for bed. With all that fun and fresh air, the kids were asleep within minutes!
