RV TIPS & TRICKS

Setting Up Camp at Ten Mile Lake

Rain… Rain… Rain… But we were thankful we had a beautiful Coachmen motorhome to stay in for our second family camping trip!

For this this trip, we decided to camp at Ten Mile Lake Provincial Park. It is located approximately 12 km north of Quesnel. This campsite has always been the perfect location to meet halfway for our extended family and friends from Williams Lake, and us, traveling from Prince George.

We arrived at Ten Mile Lake on Wednesday afternoon. It had been pouring rain since the night before. We’ve camped in the rain many times before, so we came prepared. The rain doesn’t even phase the kids anymore! I’ve learned to pack extra clothes, raincoats and boots and set them free. What kid doesn’t love splashing in puddles?

The campsite we booked was large and perfect for the motorhome, kids and dogs. Camping in a motorhome was the easiest camping I have ever experienced. Brent backed the motorhome in with ease, put out the awning and slides, and set our gear up under the awning.

In the past, setting up camp in a tent in the rain was so painful. When the kids and dogs were wet, and Brent and I are trying to set up a tarp to cover the campsite to keep our gear dry, it takes the fun out of camping.

The dogs usually don’t mind the rain as they are outside dogs, but as soon as we opened the door, they made a beeline inside – they needed a nap!

While Brent and I set up outside, the kids took off on their bikes to explore the campground. The kids always look for an opportunity to take off on their bikes and report back on cool trails they found or friends they made. Packing the kids’ bikes is always a must.

Addisyn and Rowan are old enough now that they can go on their own and usually make a lot of friends this way while camping. Tennessee is still on training wheels so next year she should be able to go with her brother and sister.

It’s awesome to see them riding around the campsite with newly made friends, having fun, and making memories. They always seem to find a steep hill somewhere and see how fast they can ride down it. No injuries yet! I remember as a kid, jumping on my bike and riding through the campsite looking for other kids on bikes and asking if they want to go riding with me.

My parents were camping with us on this trip. They usually try and come camping with us for at least one trip every year. They like taking the kids camping throughout the summer months around Williams Lake so they can visit with family and friends.

We introduced them to Ten Mile Lake a few years ago, and they love it as much as we do. They camp in a 5th wheel, so they also have lots of room to take the kids and all the gear that goes along with them. Mom likes to prepare the meals when we camp together – and I can’t complain about that! They started cooking lunch for us: BBQ’d hotdogs and smokies! They had a huge tent over their picnic table, so cooking in the rain wasn’t a big deal.
